Alternative to readonly for Field

I want to make a field readonly, which i am able to using setReadonly form api but is there any other way of making a field disabled so that the user will not be able to enter or edit data ones it has been already entered

i.e disable the field

The pedantic answer is yes, you can also use setVisible(false).

I doubt that's the answer you were looking for though. The "ones it has been already entered" part of your question means you have to do it in JavaScript, because that's the only way to change the form's behaviour dynamically. That said, FormAPI is pretty solid and easy in that regard, so perhaps you should elaborate on why you need a different solution?
