Encrypt DataDeploy database connection string
Haiyan
Hi,
I am very new to DataDeploy, got a request to encrypt database connection string using Viper certificate. Does anyone know if there is a way to inject DataDeploy with a call to decrypt connection string before it makes connection?
Thanks,
-Haiyan

As far as I know, you can encrypt db passwords but you don't get to choose the encryption mechanism. There's certainly no way to encrypt a whole connection string.
Look up "Encrypting Database Passwords" in the DataDeploy Admin guide. In v7.1 of the doc, it's on p179. I never cracked open those encryption utilities, but perhaps Autonomy has a KB about changing the default encryption algorithm (the default is PBSwithMD5).
There's also a section on p.83 about specifying full connection strings for DB vendors not certified by the product. If your Viper thing provides a JDBC driver that can decrypt the connection string, then use this method. Otherwise, and if you're really really adamant about this requirement, you could perhaps subclass the JDBC drivers from your DB vendor with one where, in Java, you build this decryption piece, but your effort level and unsupportedness skyrockets at this point.
