Event trigger filters

Hi,

I recently implemented event triggers for CreateFSE/ModifyFSE. I would now like to limit the triggers to these events in particular workarea of a branch. Does anybody know how to do this ?

There was a mention about putting this type of filters (Setcreatefse_filter etc) in iw.cfg file but it is not very informative. (https://support.interwoven.com/kb/kb_show_article2.asp?ArticleID=1458).

Has anybody implemented this. Any help is much appreciated.

I have the same question.

Is it possible to filter events by branch/area ?
TS 6.5; Solaris 9. iwat triggers for CreateFSE/ModifyFSE.

In my 5.5.2 system that was not possible, so I made the first part of my
trigger script a return if the location was not proper. The trigger still fires
and event gets logged, but if it is not a performance issue, then this will work.

Thats what I suspected.

But I am still skeptical abou the scalability of using triggers this way. Returning if the location is not proper from the first few lines saves a lot of processing. However since the event still gets fired and a perl process still gets forked, so how does this scale with increased I/O writes ? e.g. How big of an impact, if at all, would it be if we (re)generate 1000 pages? Or chmod on entire workarea? Anybody did any performance analysis/benchmarking to figure out at what point it becomes a bottleneck ?

All valid points.

In my previous gig, we had about 20K PDFs and about the same number of DCRs. Triggers fired on
DCRs only.

Whenever I did an import of new stuff I would turn off the trigger, import, then turn back on
the trigger. The first time when I did not do it, triggers ran for an hour and a half.

How many files you imported when it took hour and a half ?
1.5 hours for 20K create/modify events ? Just trying to get an idea.

I assume your trigger script just returned (no further processing) after comparing the file path.

That was about 40K files, DCR and PDF. Processing only half of then (adding an EA to the DCR, which is not fast).

No benchmark of trigger and stop only.

From what I remember, iwat will watch items written into the iwevents log. If there is a logged event, you can "iwat" it. In both versions 5.5 and 6.5 (running both here) I don't see an event in the iwevents.log. Therefore I would assume you can't trigger something on user login using iwat.

There maybe another way (modifying the login jsp) but that would be risky.
