Can user be added to teamSite without adding to OS ?

TS741,WS8

 

TS is installed on WS8. This server is called DEV server. If I want a content editor to work on DCRs, he needs to be added on TS. Can I add a user to TS without adding him on DEV server ?

When I am adding user to TS, its asking me about database and options are TeamSite, OS and "All sources"

Here TeamSite option is confusing me. I am adding user to TeamSite, then how can any user already be TS user ? He needs to be added to OS first.

 

So, how can a user ever be added toi TeamSite without being added to OS ?

First, and I've noticed this a bunch recently, what do you mean by "WS8"?

I'm assuming you mean something like Windows Server 2008 (in which case, WS2K8 or just W2K8 would be clearer) and not WebSphere 8 -- this is not twitter, you can use a few more letters to make your posts clearer.

 

Secondly - Most Windows implementations use Windows Active Directory for domain accounts, but there are usually a few accounts (e.g.: Administrator, TSIMP_hostname, etc.) that are defined locally on the server itself. 

 

Assuming that the user you want to add to TeamSite is an Active Directory domain user, and that the domain is either the same one in which the TeamSite server is located or one that TeamSite has been configured to communicate with in iw.cfg - you should treat them as an OS user and just try to add them that way.  I'm not sure what prompt you are talking about that references DBs for users.  My guess is you're looking in the wrong place / going through the wrong interface - and that would be the source of your confusion.

 

You should be going through the Admin UI or through CCPro's Actions > Manage Users interface, or using the iwuseradm CLT (the latter does reference DB's - but is reasonably clear about what that means, IMO)
