Ajax calling java method in a Component

Thanks in advance.I have a component which needs to fetch data from database and display it on the same page on click of a different hyperlink. Can you please suggest how to make an ajax call within a component that will call this external java method of the same component

Have your javascript do an AJAX call to $AJAX_URL, to which you can append different parameters. You can attach custom Java code to this call via <AjaxOutput> as mentioned in this post.
