How to clone the TS VMs?

Hi,

TS 7.3.1 / OD 7.3.1
RHEL

Has anyone cloned TS to a new VM? What are the best practice to follow? What are the configurations need to be updated with the new hostname? I got the new license, updated iw.cfg,iwutild client, DataSourceConfig add_livesite_enduser_node and odbase.

What do you mean ? Copy a VM to VM2, change the name and start it up ?

Support has instructions for changing the hostname of a server, so you should ask them. It used to be pretty easy, but with the DB (assuming that is on a different server common to the two VMs) , it will be more complex. Or will each VM have its own DB ? Then it is easier.

I usually just reinstall TS on a new VM. Wastes a day, but still the best approach.

Yes, copying from one VM to another. I have the instructions for the 6.7.2, but its too complicated in 7.3.1.

There is not much change on the OD. But the TS is what I am trying to find if anybody have done it?

This is not a much complicated process, My high level answer will be as follows

1) If TS databases are running on same VM :

1.1 ) Host name Change : If u have the host name defined other than "localhost" in the config files then you have to modify all of them.
1.2 ) Open deploy Config : You have to change the open deploy config files too if it is running on the same machine.

For config file details refer to the ts guide.

2) If TS databases running outside the VM across network

2.1) Modify all the ts config files
2.2) Modify all Open Deploy config files if it is running on your machine.

3) If you have the TS installer with you then take out the installer.properties from your running VM ,Do the changes as per your requirement and then use silent mode installation. This will be quicker and reliable.

My recommended approach would be the third one since it more reliable when compared to the other.

I've gone through this process in the past (TS 6.7.1 days), and it wasn't pretty. I would opt for the silent install method.

Updated the configs, DB and rebuild the TS and its working. The UI is up, TS server is good, mounted. Not any new error messages on the logs.

Is there anyway to find whether the TS is fully functional, any check points to verify? I am just browsing around the cloned machine and so far it seems good.
