Embedding perl variable as an include file

This is what I am trying to do,
<iw_include pt='$portalAdditionalNav' mode="ptlocal">

Just print the perl variable for the path and file name of the include? Anyone know where I am going wrong?

I think you want pt_val instead of pt:

<iw_include file ='myfile.html'/>
<iw_include file_val ='dcr.x.y'/>
<iw_include file_val ='$moo'/>
<iw_include pt ='myfile.tpl' mode='ptlocal'/>
<iw_include pt_val ='dcr.x.y' mode='ptlocal'/>
<iw_include pt_val ='$moo' mode='ptlocal'/>
