idol & index - strruggling to get seach working

TS Version - 7.3.1
OS - RHEL


using /etc/init.d/iw.idol start to start the IDOL service. Can't find anything significant in the logs. But there is no 'AutonomyContent.exe' process.

checked the ports. but could n't find anything on 9000 , 9001 & 9002.
Also there is no AutonomyContent.pid file in /opt/iwov/Search/idol.

Is this an error? i guess not.

tsindex log shows following error. I guess this is normal as Idol is down.

cd into SEARCH_HOME/idol
Run AutonomyContent.exe -install

This command will install AutonomyContent as a service. Once, this is successfully done.

Please stop Search and indexer service. Then, restart Autonomycontent service, followed by indexer and search.

I ran into a similar issue and went through a bunch of interactions with Support.
If it helps any, you can contact them regarding case # 1031284 to see if they can summarize the various things done.

In our case we were on W2K8 with 7.3.1 - and they sent me a patched indexer and had me [re-]install Visual C++ runtime and other things. Not sure all of it was needed, but the above step for installing the AuthonomyContent (idol) service was definitely needed.
