Custom attribute in the DCR, how?

Migration plan is on for 7.3

I am trying to add a custom attribute in DCR. For that I created a custom DTD. Just copied the datacapture6.0.dtd and added an attribute for item element like below:

or <my myCustom=""/> if it hasn't. If you really need [t|f] values, use radio button instead
of a checkbox.

It is unclear from your post what is "my value ABC" and where you expect it to be coming from.

Ohh, I think i was unclear in my post. I do not want to have a checkbox. For each item in my DCT, be it text or check box or textarea or radio I want to have a custom attribute. I have used the name like myCustom earlier.

I want to use myCustom attribute for some external processing for each item. Like if the value of myCustom is "t" then the processing should happen over the value of the desc item which the user will enter while creating a DCR but the same processing should not happen for section.

To make this happen, I want my DCR to look like

Section text field value entered by the user

Now the external processor can parse this DCR XML and will process only those items where myCustom is "t"

In my earlier post, i by mistake used the checkbox, it should be a text item and my value ABC is the value which the user enters while creating or editing the DCR.

Long story short - forget it. Try to find another way to satisfy your requirements.

To the best of my knowledge, there is absolutely no way to augment Forms Publisher functionality to make it happen
automatically for all Item instances. (It is of course trivial to do manually - if you need just couple DCT Items
in few Types).

Do not bother with DTD. Sure, you can change it but then what? Forms Engine has no idea "what do you mean" and how
to actually process new components. At best, they will be ignored.

Just about the only option I can think of is customized Tags. Once upon a time TS provided supported mechanism to create
your own DCT tags, like <dollyText> in addition to OTB <text>. I'm not sure if that still supported for TS 7.x XML Mode.
Even if it is, it is not trivial. Also, in your case you will need even more than that - some sort of cross-tagging functionality

You really don't want to be storing this information in the DCR anyway. Otherwise, every time your definition/calculation of myCustom values changes, you'd have a real hard time to go back and update all previous DCRs. Instead, your script or class should receive some kind of mapping of what's myCustom=t vs myCustom=f from a single source (be it hardcoded or some config file somewhere).

/assuming the calculation of the myCustom value isn't DCR-specific

Since you might be at a dead end anyway, perhaps you'd consider clarifying what your goal was in recording these attributes? Could be there's actually a pretty solution that takes a completely different approach.
