IIS 8 user / password?

I'm in the process of doing a fresh installation (upgrade on new servers) of TS 7.4.1 on W2K12.

I'm looking at the installation manual (WS_Authoring_7.4.1_Install_en.pdf) page 56, steps 14-18 (more specifically 16-18, even more specifically 17)

The first confusion comes from step 16 which states:

If you are using IIS 6, go to Step 18

and then step 18 which states:

The .Net Web Application for Preview dialog box opens if you selected automatic configuration in Step 16 and are using IIS 7 or 8.

This seems somewhat conflicting, and I'll find out whether or not I end up going through step 18 when I actually do the installation (waiting on database user / password information)

The second confusion, and I guess the primary one in terms of this thread, is with step 17 which states:

Type your IIS User ID and IIS User Password in the text boxes and click Next.

This is the first time I recall dealing with IIS 8, and certainly the first time I've dealt with either 7.4.1 and/or W2K12 - but in the past, the tspostreboot.pl script created a

TSIMP_hostname

account with some internally generated password and it (usually) worked just fine.
Is this need for specifying the IIS User and Password as new as I think?
Is there some pre-existing IIS User (and Password) that I need to find, or should I just enter

TSIMP_hostname

and whatever password I choose and assume it will take care of creating it -OR- do I need to create that user (and password) before I begin the installation and then enter it (as above) during the installation?

If anyone knows the answer(s) the above - please enlighten me / the rest of us.

I'll probably open a case with Support as well, but wanted to post here just in case...

The installer typically still creates the TSIMP account, it's just unable to automatically set it as the anonymous account used by IIS. If you search for "TSIMP" in the installer.log (or installer.log.1 or installer.log.2), you'll probably find it and its password on one of the following lines. Note that when it prints the password, it prints a period at the end of that "sentence" which is NOT part of the password.

In the end, the requirement is to have IIS use any user that is a member of the "TeamSite Web Preview" group.

Okay - but that all seems "after the fact" - I'm concerned about what I am supposed to provide during the installation process (i.e., before the logs are generated, before the TeamSite Web Preview group has been created, etc.)

Sorry, didn't phrase my answer in the form of your question Smiley Happy

What I'm trying to say is that they realized that auto-creating a user was no longer actually useful, so they ask you to provide one created beforehand, which they'll (probably) add as a member of TeamSite Web Preview when they auto-create that group. That makes it so they don't have to worry about whatever group policies you may have around local users and password rules.

/just a guess, haven't installed 7.4.1 yet myself

Response from Support (paraphrased):

Enter any account / password that has administrative rights (member of the local Administrators group) on the server. This information is not stored anywhere in TeamSite, so if the account used gets removed after the installation process is completed it won't be an issue.

Essentially, I believe this is being used to provide the authentication to create the TSIMP account and perform the IIS operations during the post-reboot process.

I'll find out if things work once I get the last bit of information I need to begin the installation.

Well, if you had asked me about a year ago, I'd probably be able to look up the details quickly; for now I believe that my last post contained the correct information - worst comes to worst, you can always contact HP Support.
