7.4.1 - fixing app installations

Environment[indent]TS 7.4.1 on Windows 2008 R2 (64-bit)[/indent]
Background[indent]I did a fresh installation of 7.4.1 yesterday and while most of the application appears to have gotten installed correctly, there are at least two exceptions (no pun intended)[/indent]
Issues:[indent]The problem pieces are:

I'm trying to work with Support - but there are some time-zone differences that are causing me some angst, so if someone here knows how to fix this I'd be interested in hearing about it.

Narrowing down the log information - the iw-teamsite.war problem seems to boil down to this:[indent]

Interesting, according to Oracle it is in hibernate-3.6.0.jar

However I know someone with 741 on 2008 with SQL2008, I will check that install

My bad, they have Win2008 and SQL 2005. I did put the jar in a decompiler and verified that SQLServer2008Dialect was not there

Yeah - SQLServerDialect is for SQL Server2005, SQL Server 2008 (and above) are supposed to use SQLServer2008Dialect
(similar to how 2005 uses sqljdbc.jar and 2008+ uses sqljdbc4.jar)

Apparently this is one of those "known issues" - that gets fixed (at least on-the-fly) by modifying:

/Interwoven/ApplicationContainer/server/default/deploy/iw-wcmweb.ear/iw-teamsite.war/WEB-INF/conf/application-config.xml

The sad part is I'm pretty sure I've done this before based on a Support Case (with an earlier version of TeamSite) - but I couldn't find the appropriate case notes to look at.

FYI, this only happens when you select the "no database" option for SitePub, which is pretty typical when you have LSCS. This leads to blank database information, which is fine in iw-cc and iw-preview because it also sets db.enabled=false. As you've discovered, that same flag doesn't get set by the installer in the iw-wcmweb side, and your exception was hiding the fact that it was trying to resolve <empty string> as the jdbc dialect, which is obviously always going to fail.

FYI, the globally applicable persistent fix for this issue (which should have been support's official fix, really) is to put the following in your AppContainer/server/default/wcmweb/toolkit/teamsite/customer_src/etc/conf/application-config-custom.xml[PHP]

[/PHP]This overrides the hardcoded defaults instead looks at the .properties files in livesite_customer instead like iw-cc and iw-preview, so there's no monkeying around if you ever need to change those values.

I vaguely recall trying something like this the last time I ran into this issue - but it may have been a different slant at the same idea. If/when I get a chance I'll try it out - but as I'm already about a week behind schedule due to trying to get 7.4.1 to install nicely on W2K12...

We ran into the same problem with the same fix -- sorry I did not see you post earlier.

We also ran into a number of database related issues and workflow modeler exceptions (it fails to download models or Create Projects). All I get are WARN level messages in the server log

If you have seen or fixed this type of error I could use some guidance.

The biggest problem were are having now is trying to repeat the Upgrade in the pre-production environment.

W2003/DB2/7.4.1

The installer allows selection of products to install and after the "Next" selected if displays "The following error has been encountered and the installation will now Stop".

Of course the dialog box that is supposed to show the error is completely blank. The error in the installer.log is as follows (seems like its probably trying to decrypt "something" that it either "got" from the IR_DBINFO fields.

Hope you are talking to support.

Have had similar before. Was forced to manually rollback the upgrade and try again. Depending on how far it went it can be ugly.

Is the Pre-prod server a VM or a hard box ? For a VM, you can go to a snapshot (hopefully you have one) and then all you need to do is manually change the DB that contains the TS install information, that is pretty easy.

Most people have trouble with reportcenter, IIRC, there was a bug in the installer. There are instructions on that at support. But that should not be a showstopper, most people don't bother getting basic reportcenter up and running.

Thanks for the insight. We do have a support case open - not much help yet. I can see why "most" people don't bother with basic report center since its so easly broken.
First time I have trouble with it - but also have not used it too much.

I wanted to follow up on one comment, We are using VMs and I can probably request a store. You then said "change the DB that the install data it in". I assume you meaning the database with the IR_* tables?

What is the "easy change" -- adusting the iwstall properties file?

If you want try a reinstall, then you restore VM snapshot. I assume that takes care of everything except the DB. That you can restore by changing the following table (appropriate version of the restore):
