How can user belonging to OS group work in TS

TeamSite7.4.1, Win Server 8

 

When I create a TS group, I can choose to nest other groups in it. I cam also nest OS group in TS group.

If I nest OS group in TS group, how will members of this OS group be able to access TeamSite, if they are not added to TS ?

For OS group members to access, they need to be added to TeamSite OR is it not so ?

If a member of OS group is modifying any file, how wull the name of modifier appear in TS UI ? Will that be some Sysyte...... OR will it be by the name user is added to TS ?

Members of OS groups that are not registered TeamSite users will not be able to do anything within TeamSite - worse still, if you use those outer/nesting TeamSite groups for group tasks in workflows, you are likely to get errors because there are users referenced in the OS groups that are not registered in TeamSite.

 

So - in general, you want to make sure that all members of the OS group are registered TeamSite users - or skip the OS group and just use TeamSite groups (my preference).

 

Once the user is registered for TeamSite, the files they create / modify should show up as being modified by their userid (which eventually leads back to either the OS, AD, or LDAP).

 

In your case, since you're on Windows - the question is: When you say OS Groups - do you mean Domain Groups or Server-specific Groups?  If you're using Domain Groups - you should be fine.

If you're using Server-specific Groups - you would be much better off using TeamSite groups - especially if you ever want / need to migrate the backing store to another server (failover, disaster recovery, fresh-install-upgrade, etc.) since server-specific groups will have distinct SID's associated with them on each server upon which they get created .
