User from group not populating in drop-down of custom instantiation

Hi,

This seems to be a very basic thing. I have created a group in TS. Now i want to pull the users in the grp in the drop-down of the custom instantiation. However, for some reason I am not able to do it at the moment .
Please find below my code. Please let me know if the issue is happening because I am using "_" in my group name. I cannot think of any other possible reason.

For one thing - you have a backslash before the '<' in what you posted - if that's in your code, remove it and see if it works.

For another thing, are you sure "executeComponent" is the correct datasource to specify for handling what you are trying to do?

Lastly, you probably need to specify a parameter at the end too - e.g.: group=dd_image_approvers, not just the group name.

Well "executeComponent" is not the DS name. It the default method to be specified during an inline call. My aim is to retrieve users fm a particular grp in the drop-down. IF i create a Datasource , is there a specific parameter i need to set in the DS. Can anyone provide me with an example. I didnt get anything like that in the manuals

My bad on executeComponent - that's the method to call, the argument following that is supposed to be the Datasource symbolic name (DataSourceConfig.xml) - is "dd_image_approvers the symbolic name of your component or the name of the group you want to display members of?

If the former - then if the name of the group is hard-coded, that should work (assuming the code is written correctly). If the latter - then you're missing a piece of the directive.

The directive should probably look something like this:[html][/html](ignore the white-space in the group-name, that's the forum software doing stupid stuff)

Unless you can find an OOTB Datasource that works on groups (I believe most work on roles), you'll need to write your own datasource code, made to take a 'Group' directive, and to retrieve the list of users from there. There's some code within the WFM manual and/or find the existing datasource code and de-compile it (if necessary) to fashion your own.

Thanks for yr response. I looked into the WFM manuals and wrote my own piece of code by referring the MapUserPicker code. My query now is can I dynamically pass a group from the custom_instantiation to the DataSourceConfig.xml. What i mean to say here is that if I pass a hard-coded group , then I will get users only from that group . How about i pass different groups from the custom_instantiation into the DataSourceconfig.xml for the same DataSource through a variable ? Is that possible ?
Kindly advice.

It's possible, but you'd have to call the datasource through FormAPI using IWDatacapture.executeDatasource() (documented in the WFM guide, NOT in the FormAPI guide) and then set the options on the dropdown field in your callback function.

Hi,
I dont think i wanna go the API way as of now. What if I give the inline command as :
<\inline command="Datasource:executeComponent:UserPicker:Group=dd_im age_approvers"/>
(As given by Ghoti above) and pass this as a parameter to my Java class ?

and have the below line in my DataSourceconfig:

<\param name="Group">(Without any value)

Er.. no? What you're talking about allows you to provide a different value in different custom_instantiation.cfg files, but really this is just going to pass "dd_image_approvers" as a static value just the same.

Note that your datasource does get some information from the context, namely the current user and workarea vpath, so if your group choice can be determined based on those two factors then you don't need a parameter at all. Otherwise, the only way to make the parameter dynamic (in the true sense of the word) is via the FormAPI dispatch.

Not to dispute rpoulin's response - but you really need to provide more context to your question regarding "dynamic" group usage.

Try providing a full use-case (limited to the instantiation form) showing how the name of the group would be dynamic.
