TeamSite upgrade from 6.1sp2 and 7.1 to 7.4.1
System
Hi,
We are upgrading TeamSite 6.1 SP2 and 7.1 to 7.4.1 new hardware, fresh install . There are two TeamSite instances running currently (6.1 SP2 and 7.1). We want to consolidate current environments in the signle TeamSite 7.4.1 in the new system.
TeamSite 6.1 SP2 is running on Windows 200.
TeamSite 7.1 is running on Window 2003.
Note: The TeamSite 7.4.1 will be installed on a new hardware with Windows 2008. It is a upgrade using fresh install.
Please provide the best approach and steps to do this upgrade.
Thanks & Regards,

In a nutshell, hire someone who has done this before.

Good. Have you done these versions upgrade?

I know there are people on here who have. You are working with a version that is about 10 years old.

Yes, as have many others here and elsewhere. My point was that this is not a trivial process, nor can it reasonably be documented because it's too dependent on factors specific to your environment and implementation.
You can ask pointed questions here and you'll probably get answers, but that won't stop your upgrade from going sideways in an instant. Your best bet is to find someone that has done this and can be on-site to react to those factors in a timely fashion.
If you don't know where to even start looking, HP Professional Services does this kind of thing, and they can at least help you with the planning portion.

If I am not mistaken then upgrading 6.1 system means dealing with conversion of store apart from the detailed evaluation of the content, code, customizations.
6.1 -->6.5 -->6.7.2
Handling store conversion, change in user management
6.7.2 --> 7.2.1 -->7.3.2 -->7.4.1
Movement of servlet container from tomcat to jboss, java version upgrade, customization and many more.
Now officially no support from HP now for the version up to 7.1. Discuss with your HP account manager, I am sure they will suggest for professional services to hire and it would be better option this time as suggested.
