Backing store on a solid state disk?

Does anybody have any experience with storing the backing store on an ssd disk? Could this improve performance of teamsite?

Quite an open ended question. Could it ? Sure it could. Will it in your circumstances ? I doubt it, not without knowing a lot about what makes your implementation "slow".

What do you lose when you move to SSD ? Is your store on an array or just a generic hard drive ? What is the reliability ?

How much will it cost to test it out ?

Ok, let's rephrase my question. We want to offer our users a environment that is lightning fast. Which means, for us, that browsing folder via the file-explorer should be just as fast on a C-drive as on the Y-drive. Blink of the eye fast.

And the same holds for browsing a branch/folder structure in the teamsite gui. A listing of 20 editions should show before I can blink my eye. Less then 0.5 seconds. If google can do it for a world wide search teamsite should be able to do it on a 100GB backing store. This is currently far from the case.

Since a lot of teamsite is I/O to the backing store I think that a very, very fast disk read (e.g not so much write) is the key here.

How can we achieve this?

Everything will well and good. But guys remember, TeamSite UI is a web-based interface on a client machine who is hooked up to a definite bandwidth connection.

No matter how your TeamSite server is a TopGun
each client machines, the network connectivity and the code should be in par with the Machine.

Yes getting a very good server with all the later and the top technology will improve your performance, but that improvement will not showup unless you have client side technology upgrade.
