LiveSite - Licensing Question (Transactions Per Second)

Hi Guys

 

We were trying to understand if our LiveSite Deployment is within the licensing terms given by HP.

 

We have a LiveSite server Dept. Edition license, with a restriction of 25 Transactions Per Second (TPS) defined by HP as below:

 

*A Transaction is deifned as a discrete request for content or data(also known as API Call or data query) from LiveSite Content Services API. A single page component , web page, or page view may result in multiple requests, calls or queries against LiveSite COntent Services API, contributing to the aggregate transactions per second.*

 

I wanted to measure the TPS being generated by our LiveSite server to ensure we are compliant. Please can anyone guide on how to measure TPS?

The only thing OOTB is the "profiler", which is documented in the LSCS Tech Reference PDF. It's not meant for production use, but it provides throughput monitoring. You could also build one yourself (to have further metrics/detail), either with a Java filter as a gatekeeper in the LSCS webapp, or if you only have one connection point (i.e. LSDS) then you can build your monitor there.

 

The alternative is to estimate it, based on web analytics data and then calculating what percentage of those requests will be issuing LSCS calls.

 

Also, as far as I'm aware, they consider average TPS not burst TPS, and there are other such specifications about it. You should ask your sales rep for further details, especially as it pertains to the licensing agreement you've signed.
