Hi,

When I try to preview pages on the DCT it throws the following error message :

Template Preview And Generate Error:

Error in presentation template:/default/main/XYZ/WORKAREA/worker/templatedata/intranet/level3/presentation/level3.tpl

This problem is am getting when I use TeamSite running on Solaris.

The same DCT after saving and previewing using the same tpl on a Windows Server i am able to preview the page perfectly.

What happens on solaris is that when I click on Preview button it calls the following URL
http://SERVERNAME/iw/webdesk/callcgi

and then throws the error message.
Any suggestions?? Any issues on setting the setuid root on any of the cgi files or like that ??

You have two TeamSite servers? one running on Windows the other on Solaris?
Are they both the same version of TeamSite and TeamSite Templating (including patches and service packs)? What version (you didn't say).

Can you post (as an attachement) the DCT, the PT, and perhaps a sample DCR ?

Hi,

I am using Teamsite 5.5.2 and yes we have both the setups in our Development Environment and we test our applications on both solaris and Windows.

Here i am attaching the datacapture.cfg and the associated tpl file.

As per my understanding when I preview DCR, it should create a temporary file on the root of my workarea with the file name as zz_tst_USERNAME_1_preview.html, but what I see on my Solaris teamsite is just a temporary file with the name preview.html with size as 0K. Can this be of some help in solving my problem ?

Kindly let me know what could be the problem.

Do you have any service packs or patches applied to either of the servers?
I don't have time right now to test this out (and basically only have a windows system to do it on - where you don't appear to be having the problem) - but the one suggestion I can make (which may be a red-herring) is that you make use of item labels and remove the spaces from the names of the items. i.e. instead of:

<container name="Level 3 Template" hide-name="f" combination="and">
  <container name="Left Navigation" hide-name="f" combination="and">

Try:

<container name="l3tpl" hide-name="f" combination="and">
<label>Level 3 Template</label>
  <container name="leftnav" hide-name="f" combination="and">
<label>Left Navigation</label>

And then change the PT accordingly from:

<iw_iterate list="dcr.Level 3 Template.Left Navigation.Image" var="lnavimages">

To:

<iw_iterate list="dcr.l3tpl.leftnav.Image" var="lnavimages">

and see if that somehow resolves the problem. Although 'name' is defined as CDATA not as ID - it is possible that something is incorrectly grokking the white-space within those delimeters.

Maybe someone else will see something that I'm missing - or be able to try it out on a Solaris system to see if they can reproduce the problem...

I don't think that is the problem. I have another installation of TeamSite on Solaris, on which I have the Preview and Generate working perfectly.

The Another solaris instance I am trying to test does not have a webserver configured, so do you think that could be the problem?

I am not use why the browser is unable to process the /callcgi request?? Do you think this could be because of some setuid root permission on some CGI?

I was facing some problem on a couple of cgi .. for example iw_cgi_wrapper.cgi and others giving installation error and then when I set the setuid root on a list of cgi files, the problem got solved.

Any idea what could be the problem ??

Yes - you must have a "customer webserver" configured in order for previews to work.

Hi,

If I dont have a properly configured customer webserver, i think it should give the following Error

Connection Failed
iwproxy was unable to open a connection to: abc.xym.com:81 Reason: No error.

But in my case, it says

Can you throw some more light on this ??

Yes I have now set the Customer WebServer Host and Port correctly and I am able to virtualize the pages located in my workarea properly.

But when I save a DCR and click on Preview I still get the following error

I am not sure what could be the problem. Can some cgi cause this problem? Previously I had similar problem when I was not able to click on "Add New Record" under File Menu it used to throw Installation problem, iw_cgi_wrapper.cgi needs root access. In order to solve the problem I set the setuid root to a couple of cgi files, and I got that working. Do you think I missed any CGI file in setting the same permission for the needed CGI file.

Here is the list of CGI files, I set the setuid root for

iw-home/httpd/iw-bin/iwcgi.cgi
iw-home/httpd/iw-bin/nph-iw_cgi_wrapper.cgi
iw-home/httpd/iw-bin/iw_cgi_wrapper.cgi

I am not sure whether some CGI is responsible for previewing, and which needs similar permissions. Do I need to set some permission on "iwtmplpreview.cgi" located in iw-bin folder ?

I may have led you down a wrong turn here (I've been doing that a lot while driving these last few days, sigh) - have you run the DCR through the PT using iwpt_compil.ipl?
Have you done so using the '-ocode' option to generate a Perl script which can then be debugged?

I should probably have looked closer at the attachment you previously posted - but while I don't have time to try things out right now - perhaps you could do so.

I notice in your PT - you have things like:
{iw_value name='lnavimages.Specify URL'}
Can you try changing them to:
{iw_value name='lnavimages.Specify URL'/}

(you'll have to do that throughout the PT)
and see if that fixes the problem?

Hi,

But I have the same level3.tpl working perfectly on my TeamSite Server running on Windows/Solaris. But the same Tpl is giving the error in my customer TeamSite installation.

I am attaching the new level3.tpl file which I have modified as per your suggestion, still I get the same Error message.

When I try to execute iwpt_compile.ipl under iw-home.bin
ith throws the following message

Try running /opt/teamsite/iw-home/local/config/iwpt_encoding.ipl
in standalone mode (see documentation within iwpt_encoding.ipl).

I got that working. there is no error in tpl files.
Infact iwpt_encoding.ipl had size 0KB.

I'd re-check your installation (perhaps check through IWOV_Upgrades directory - I don't believe that iwpt_encodings.ipl should be 0 length - on my W2K 552SP3 box it's 11398 bytes.

I just took a peak at a Solaris box with 552SP2 on it - and it was 11034 bytes.

Sorry guys,
I've got the same problem on W2K TS5.5.2 box.
When using use TeamSite: Smiley Very Happy

CRnode; in an ipl script and then running the debugger mode over the script I get iwpt_encoding.iplt the error saying:

Default output encoding config file is missing:
c:\iw-home\local\config\iwpt_encoding.ipl

Please review the TST manual for more information on iwpt_encoding.ipl.
In fact the file ist there and has a size of 12k. My problem occurs in the iw_xml.pm module in line 42..44 when it's checking if the file has been succesfully been loaded into the @INC array.

Any ideas ?

Do you ever resolve this problem? What was the solution. I am having the same problem with a regular user (Windows). If I put the user in the local admins group, the preview work, take him back out, get the templating error.

Check the log files (IWHOME/local/logs/iwui/*)
Check the permissions on directories leading up-to-and-through IWHOME

If it works when your user is a member of the administrators group, and doesn't work when they aren't - it's most likely a permissions problem and the one I remember experiencing most often had to do with access rights leading up-to-and-through IWHOME.

I know it is a permission issue and I know that it is a cgi impersonating the user, but I just can't find it. I have used Filemon and tokenmon and everyone other mon that I can think of, but I am not seeing any failure.

But If I put him in the local admins group, he's good.

Let's try this the slow way.
What groups (excluding local admins) is this user a member of?
What is the path for your IWHOME directory (e.g., c:\iw-home, d:\Interwoven\TeamSite, ...)?
[Using d:\Interwoven\TeamSite for example]
What are the permissions on d:\Interwoven?
What are the permissions on d:\Interwoven\TeamSite?
What are the permissions on d:\Interwoven\TeamSite\bin?
What are the permissions on d:\Interwoven\TeamSite\httpd?
What are the permissions on d:\Interwoven\TeamSite\httpd\iw-bin?
What are the permissions on d:\Interwoven\TeamSite\iw-perl?
What are the permissions on d:\Interwoven\TeamSite\iw-perl\bin?
etc.

Try adding this user specificially to those paths, one at a time, to see if it makes any difference in the results of attempting to preview.

Found it. The user did not have access to the iw_xml.pm file.
