XSLT problem - creating a grid / table

Hi all,

I am having an issue trying to work this out with XSLT / XML.

Basically I have an xml file that looks like this

...
...

...
...
[/html]

Now the sections can range from 1-9 depending on how many replicants the person fills in. The output that I am trying to achieve is a 3x3 grid where if there is more than 3 bits of data (say 5 for example) then the 4th and 5th piece of data would go on the next line. The final html output would be (for this 5 example) -

data1, data2, data3

[/html]

My xsl is -

[html]
...
...

some exmaple

...
...

[/html]

This of course throws an error becuase

[html]

[/html]

is malformed. Can someone think up another solution to produce the result I am after?

Hi Rick,

It all seems to work except that for some reason if I put in position() + 1 nothing shows up (even though there are values there in the XML file) but if I put in either a value (1, 2 or 3) or position() by itself it shows the correct value corresponding to the number.

Works

For some reason it is not recognising the +1??

I tried your solution but the only problem is that what is in CDATA is literally spat out in the same way in the browser and not interpreted like proper HTML code.

I assume there is some setting wrong or missing in my XML that is causing this?

Ok I've worked it out based off Rick's code.

I had to stuff around with it a bit because it wasn't working properly (e.g. the position() + 1 wasn't working so I had to use a variable to store the position() value, go figure) but it was a good starting point though and now it finally works.

FWIW - I tried mucking around with a combo of both Rick's and my solutions and ran into the same issue you did - that is

../section[position() + 1]

didn't seem to work - hence I'm interested in seeing what you did.

Ah - I finally got what I wanted to work working, and I didn't need the variable, but I did ned to change the for-each loop (with the for-each loop as you indicated, it didn't actually process all the data in my test file)

...[/html]If that works, it would be more extensible, in case you end up needing more than 3 rows...
