not able to start teamsite server

Surender

Hi,

TeamSite server was suddenly down and not able to start after that.
getting the below error.

we are on teamsite 6.5 SP2 on Solaris 9
please suggest what should we do to start the server successfully?

iw.server_****: ---------- STARTING: Wed Sep 26 11:49:43 PDT 2012

Did the IWFS change:

/dev/iwovwfs

Anything in the server.log or trace.log ?

Surender

I didn't see anything specific to /dev/iwovwfs in the iwtrace.log

but I found the below error in iwserver.log

iw.server_****: ---------- STARTING: Wed Sep 26 11:49:43 PDT 2012
iwetcboot: Running iwstart /iw-store in /apps/iw-home
iwstart: WFS device driver path is /dev/iwovwfs

run this

ls -l /dev/iwovwfs

Surender

Thanks nipper.
here is the output.

# ls -l /dev/iwovwfs
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 31 Nov 28 2006 /dev/iwovwfs -> ../devices/pseudo/iwovwfs@0:wfs
#

do we need to change anything here?

nipper

That is a link, check the actual file

ls -l /devices/pseudo/iwovwfs@0:wfs

or

ls -l /devices/pseudo/iw*

Surender

Hi nipper,

that file is missing.
how we can get this back? please suggest?

nipper

Also, find iwserver.sol (I think that is the name), as well as the iwserver binary and do an ls -l of those

They should be setuid for root and it is possible someone removed the setuid bit

nipper

Hi nipper,

that file is missing.
how we can get this back? please suggest?

That I do not know, other than reinstall or backup.

Surender

Thanks nipper.

can we copy this from our QA server? will that work? or it should be from the same server backup?

nipper

Good question.

Talk to a Solaris sys admin.

That is a device driver and needs to be loaded properly. I have not done that by hand for a very long time.

Also makes me wonder what else is missing.

Surender

we asked our backup team to restore that file.
let's see after that?
will post you the result.
I don't know what else is missing.

Surender

but I am wondering why that file is 0 kb?
/devices/pseudo/iwovwfs@0:wfs

nipper

/devices/pseudo/iwovwfs@0:wfs

It is a device and not a file. Like I said, talk to an admin

Surender

I am getting this error after restoring the file also.

iw.server_****: ---------- STARTING: Wed Sep 26 14:07:08 PDT 2012
iwetcboot: Running iwstart /iw-store in /apps/iw-home
iwstart: WFS device driver path is /dev/iwovwfs
iwstart: The events log file is /logs/iw/iwevents.log
iwstart: resetting wfs queue state ...
iwstart: FATAL ERROR: iwfs_modctrl -g /dev/iwovwfs returned an error 1
iwstart: FATAL ERROR: "iwfs_modctrl: Could not open device /dev/iwovwfs; wfs driver is not installed correctly"
iwstart: FATAL ERROR: PLEASE REBOOT MACHINE. 1
ERROR: Failed to start.

nipper

The device driver is not installed correctly, you can call support or you can reinstall it.

Have you tried rebooting after restoring the device driver?

Surender

Thanks nipper.

Issue resolved after restoring the file: /usr/kernel/drv/sparcv9/iwovwfs

The big question - for you - is how / why these files got removed in the first place? I imagine there's also a "who" involved too. Having these files vanish on their own is very unlikely.

That's really a very big question for me ????
Don't know what happened suddenly, server went down and it didn't come back as normal iw.server start.
then rebooted the machine after that also didn't come back.
then restored these files from backup after verifying logs in teamsite.

I have only that info.
Please let me know if you have any idea or thoughts.

nipper

That is not something the OS or TS would do. I would see if a sys admin made a change they did not understand.

Any patches loaded recently ? I wounder if this happened recently or if it was loaded in memory and did not show itself until the server was restarted. I have seen that happen before with other (non-OS) files.
