Issue with using $AJAX_URL

We are using AJAX_URL to render values for a component. When previewing on teamsite everthing is working fine and we do not have any issues. When copying the .page to runtime and using the runtime url, we are not able to preview the details. There is an AJAX call being made with proper component id and the parameters are also passed but it is throwing 404 error. Please let me know if we are missing anything.
