We have a requirement to enable search capability within Teamsite (7.1). It has been recommended that we install TS Search on a separate box (not on the one that hosts TS) owing to performance measures and have Event subsystem enabled for the same. Any opinion on this set up/arrangement would be really helpful for us to proceed. Especially, on the event subsystem front.
On the Event Subsystem (ES) front, we havent been using Search or Reporting till date and thus kept ES disabled. So we are unaware of the kind of performance overhead our TS box would take when we enable it. Its safe to assume that the Teamsite server has a robust configuration.
In addition to my query, I would also like to learn if anyone has performed an installation of TS search in a separate box and the kind of issues they have faced doing so.
Hi Dave,Could you throw some light on the bug in TS Search 7x that occurs if you have more than 5000 files and create lots of Editions and likely to be fixed in 7.3.2.
Somehow, we are the first ones to discover that if you have more that 5000 files in your branch, Search won't find a full result set.
Are you sure it's 5000 files in a branch - or 5000 files that meet the search criteria?
I'm pretty sure it's 5000 files because we absolutely don't have 5000 files that meet the search criteria. The configuration entry is called maxResults, which is also confusing as it would imply the maximum number of results. The whole IDOL/TeamSite integration is a black box. They couldn't find anyone in engineering who actually understood how it was glued together. Regardless, it's a cluster...Every couple of weeks I set the configuration up to the higher values and let it run and it finds a few dozen files that should have expired but didn't. Then when it stops expiring files I set everything back to the defaults. As long as I don't let it run for more than an hour or two, it runs ok, but the CPU is peaked the whole time.
# This is applicable only if iw.idol.search.useState is set to true.# This specifies the maximum number of results that should be returned# such that all these results may then be obtained using the state token.iw.search.query.maxResults.size = 5000
Hi, it would be helpful if you could confirm the settting. I did some review of the search configuration files and found the following setting in search.private.properties: # This is applicable only if iw.idol.search.useState is set to true.# This specifies the maximum number of results that should be returned# such that all these results may then be obtained using the state token.iw.search.query.maxResults.size = 5000
[Server]MaxResults=1000000
iw.idol.search.useState=true
Nothing to do with Search on a separate box, but since I'm ranting....Do you realize that out of the box in 7.x, the Exact Phrase option on TeamSite's UI Search widget doesn't do an Exact Phrase search? You have to set a (undocumented, of course) flag in AutonomyContent.cfg in order for this to actually do what you expect. Oh and then re-index. It takes literally days for us to re-index. Needless to say, I've had some vary irritating interaction with IW over their POS Search product.
Hi Smitty,Can you please let us know what is the undocumented flag that you've mentioned above. It'd be helpful if you could let us know how to set it with the help of an example.Thanks.
Here's the response from IW Support about ensuring the Exact Phrase Search will actually work the way you'd expect it to work. Beware - this will force you to re-index your branch(es), which for us might take days:This is likely a configuration you can change for your IDOL index. When IDOL is indexing a document, by default, IDOL will ignore the indexing of the stopword. Every language has words that do not carry much significant meaning. In grammatical terms these are normally prepositions, conjunctions, auxiliary verbs and so on (for example, words such as "the", a, and, to in English). These words can be safely ignored when processing content.By default, stopwords are not indexed, but you can index them using the configuration parameter StopWordsIndex in the [LanguageTypes] section in IDOL config file (AutonomyContent.cfg).For example:[LanguageTypes]StopwordIndex=1
