Deploying to multiple nodes for LSCS / LSDS

Hi,

I want to deploy LSDS/LSCS app ("same" site. same source location) from teamsite to 5 different servers (same target location).

What files need to be changed and what are the steps ?

I tried passing LSCSFarmName for destinationNode param as below (but doesn't work) :-(

You are still on 7.2.1 ? You should always post OS and TS/LS revision, esp with LSCS because of a lot of changes in 7.3.X. The farm is the correct approach, esp when everything is the same. Can you post the failures ? Exactly what changes did you make ?

Assuming 7.2.1 (since this is what I've been struggling with lately) with regard to the above, assuming that it's just 'production' you want to deploy to a farm, the 'production' lscsRuntimeHostname should be "localhost" (it gets evaluated on the receiving end of the deployment).

I'm assuming you've already defined LSCSRuntimeFarm in your odnodes.xml file.

Just two modes for deployment (preview which is localhost and production which will have a Farm of 5 lscs/lsds runtimes). "LSCSRuntimeFarm" is defined in odnodes.xml.

Can I just pass a FarmName instead of node name in lscs-authoring.xml ?

Yes, you pass the farm name as-if it were the node name - but the piece you're missing from my previous response is that this:

<production ... lscsRuntimeHostname="lscsruntime1.ctx.com" .../>

should be this:

<production ... lscsRuntimeHostname="localhost" .../>

Assuming that you have LSCS running on each of your target receivers. If you don't, and the LSCS is only running on "lscsruntime1.ctx.com" - disregard the above.

It works now.. I forgot changing OD/conf/lscs/*.xml files to use external farm name instead of using internal farm. Is it required to change it to use external farm name ?

Required - no, recommended - IMO yes.
I prefer to define my replicaitonFarms in odnodes.xml so that they're defined centrally.

One last question, How flexible is it add a new attribute to the lscs-authoring.xml ?.

Like we have two different user/group for preview vs production.
I thought I could pass user/group values and use it in my OD/conf/lscs/config files.

For that you *must* have the patch installed for 7.2.1 (or upgrade to 7.3.1)

Nope. There is a bug that the deployment will give an NPE for any deployment other than the production bean. It sounds like you will need multiple deployments (other than just production). You create a preview bean and change the custom instantiation config. The patch must also be installed. Hope you have better luck than I have had with it.
