What is the purpose of the backup? I.e.: How do you intend to make use of it after you have it?

The simplest way to to create a zip or tar file of the contents of [Y:]/default/main/****/WORKAREA/yyy and squirrel it away somewhere.

The more official way is to use some backup software and point it to the same directory path.

Note - neither of the above methods will preserve EAs on the files in question - just the file contents (and directory structure)

We will remove the unused workareas in Teamsite after taking the backup so that the business user wants to revert the workareas.

Can you please suggest which backup software to be used and how to use that software in Teamsite to backup the unused workareas.

We are planning to take a back up of the workarea that are no longer in use. We would prefer some method where we could preserve the EA.
Can you please suggest on this requirement.

Removing workareas will only save you a small amount of disk space -- essentially, the disk space utilized by modified files in the workarea.

Also - you should ignore what Windows tells you about free-space in Y:\ drive -- instead you should look for what it tells you about free-space in your iw-store location (from a command prompt on the server, try typing iwgetstore if you don't already know the location).

I have no recommendations to offer regarding backup software - other than that you want to make sure that the backup software does not (or can be configured not to) modify the 'archive' bit on files that it backs up -- that can really mess things up.
