Hi everybody,

Can someone help with the below scenario.

I have replicant defined in my DCR. In my JS, while opening the DCR, (OnInit) I am calling the CallServer for every replicant. I am looping through the # of replicants and calling the callserver.

IWDatacapture.callServer(url,param,true); - In the call server (.ipl) I am setting the text box values for every replicant

1st replicant:

newarra[0]=("test1","test2",true,true);

optionsarray.setoptions(newarra);

2nd replicant:

newarra[0]=("test3","test4",true,true);

optionsarray.setoptions(newarra);

After the DCR is opened, only second replicants values in text dox are displayed.

I also see that the call server sets only after the init() is complete(I tried looking the pattern and thought so).

Can you please guide as to how I can set the values for the two replicants while opening. Is this how the callserver behaves. My requirement is to set the value from callserver as the callserver fetches data from another file.

CallServer is asynchronous and uses a 1-entry queue (so-to-speak) such that when you make a second callserver request before the first one is completed, it replaces that one for the new one.

The only way to handle this is with a loop that essentially says:

Make callserver request with specific xpath
Callserver code needs to invoke a callback function when completed
Callback function checks to see if there are more items to loop through (maintain your own queue with either an integer counting down or an arrary of xpaths or whatever). If there are more entries in the queue - go back to #1 with next specific xpath

The alternative is to build the looping aspect into the code invoked by the callserver, so that code does all the looping in one callserver invokation (which would probably be better performance-wise than the previously outlined method) - however, keep in mind that this is still going on asynchronously so it is possible that the DCT form will render and then start changing while you are looking at it.

If you don't like that - then you need to do some other stuff like displaying a message and/or marking everything as read-only until the callserver code calls the callback function (if you do this, you need to make sure that the callserver code knows to make items read-write before modifying them and [probably] make them read-only again afterwards)

Since you are doing this on form open, you don't need a call server. Just use an inline or 3 to handle each replicant.

I tried you suggestion.

api.callbackfunction(array1, $index_value);

array1 is the new Options array("test1","test2",true,true) and index_value is the replicant

If I run this in Mozilla, it perfectly works, I see the loop being followed as below 1. Call server 2. callback for every replicant iteration on Init.

But If I do the same in IE, only the last replicant call back is beng displayed. I understand that it is asynchronous, kindly clarify if I am missing something here.

If it works on 1 browser and not another, then it is not an issue with the callserver, because that runs on the server. The issue is with the client JavaScript. You need to debug that. Or move it from call server to an inline because there is no reason that needs to be a callserver.

We are dynamically populating the content based on the user selection, hence the callserver is used to pick those values from db. We cannot use it as Useline.

I have other DCR's that works fine but just that they do not have replicants.

Can you please some light how I can approach this and wondering why it is not working in IE. Only one response is coming out from callserver though I have callback.

Any help on this is highly appreciated.

You stated in the 1st post this was onInit.

Does the error happen onInit or on user selection or both?

As to why it works on 1 and not the other, welcome the JS on different browsers. This is a timing issue. You can put timeouts and make certain they run in order. There are examples, but that will slow your code down on startup.

You can also write it so that you send mutiple data points and it returns all the data at once. Then iterate through the list and make all the updates at once.

Basically trying to use the onItemChange code for onInit within a replicant is difficult at best.

It does not work in Firefox also. May be it is display I had set that showed incorrectly.

Yes, As I said, I am calling this function in Init only. It does not work fork in wither browsers...:-(.

Can you please look into the attached and let me know if I missing something here. I am struck for the past 2 days.

Well it is up to you, it is hard to read the code and figure out what is happening, and I done have time to set up a tes.t

SInce this is only on init, then you can use an inline.

If you don't want to, then it is up to you to debug. It is a timing issue, Really hard to debug because any measuring you do affects the output.

Try what Adam suggested or try one of the other suggestions.
