component update is appending the default content along with existing content.

I created a component which has replicants in it. I kept default content without adding any replicant.

Now I used the component to create a page(this page has layout and template). I entered the my related content and added few more replicants. I had to change the component and add one more datum to it. I added the datum and updated component and template too. When I open the page and click on update. The default content from the components gets appended to the existing content.

This is an issue ("feature") dating back to at least 7.2. Basically, only root items can be marked as changed and the "update" process does not touch anything marked as such. Thus, your whole replicant is marked as changed so none of its contents receive any updates.

 

Not sure if HP is aware of it. We've never bothered to ask because it wasn't such a big deal for our use cases. Given the framework changes in TS8, I'm not sure there's much hope in getting it fixed now either.
