History Display

Hi,

My users want to see the history of files in a CGI form called from within Teamsite. It is actually a CGI task called from within a workflow. They want to be given a link to the file history as displayed from the normal Teamsite menu. As this did not sound an unusual request I have said I would do it.

Does anyone know how to call the Teamsite History display function? The one that ships with Teamsite does exactly what I want and I don't want to have to re-invent this wheel.

Any suggestions gratefully received. We're using TS 5.5.2 on Solaris 8.

Programmatically, OpenAPI has a method IWFileVersion.getHistoryTable that might be used. But this is a java API. I dont know how you are going to use this in a CGI form.

iwrlog might help; I don't know how you would just reuse the existing functionality.

Did you ever find a solution for this? Some of the users now want links to file history in the email messages. I can use JSP/OpenAPI but I would prefer to use default functionality if possible.

Why does that OpenAPI method return object?

Thanks for your input on this one.

One of our clever programmers wrote me a natty cgi form based on the output of iwrlog. The biggest problem with it is detecting what all the statuses are. IW have not (so far) disclosed the values that the flags attribute can have (from iwattrib).

I'm still waiting on Support to see if they can tell me how to use the default form.

To answer the question about OpenAPI returning Object, this is done in order to ensure portablity with 2 possible collection libraries, and the object can be cast to the relevant collection object, and from there on, there is a specific class representing each of the entries in the collection. The javadoc can give you further details.

This method does returns all the data that is returned by the WebdeskPro CGI or the iwrlog CLT. So you should be able to use this method in a straightforward manner.

I filed a case on this. This was the response:

To provide a link to the file history I think you will probably have to create a text file by redirecting the output of the iwattrib CLT and then provide a link to this file.
Please let me know if this helps in resolving the issue you are having.

iwattrib isn't even the right command line tool (isn't it iwrlog?). Anyway I am going to use OpenAPI if anyone is interested in the code. That method returns an ArrayList, not sure why the signature says object.

And when you ask about the values that 'iwattrib <vpath> flags' returns (so that you can create your own history display) they go strangely quiet. They did confirm 0x2 is the deleted flag but that was as far as it went.

But you're right about the iwrlog.
