MediaBin 4.6.2 question; tracking the viewing of assets

Someone wants to know if we can run a report on what assets are viewed? Not downloaded, uploaded, etc. just viewed.

From checking the job descriptor table for the audit log, I don't see anything that would really indicate that.

Does anyone know of a way to track the assets that simply get viewed? Like, say, specifically, if the user clicks on it to view the large preview and metadata. Is there a way to track that?

we too had a similar requirement and after some analsyis we came to conclusion that its not possible in MB 4.6.2

i believe it will be possible using APA and MB 8.1 combination.

HP experts may confirm this.

When you say APA and MediaBin 8.1, are you saying Virage MediaBin in general, in combination with functionality found in the API?

OK, thank you for everyone's feedback, and I accept the answer that it can't be done.

Just one last question, though, if the client was to push the issue and say they wanted to request a black patch customization, or make it a feature request for a future release, is that a feature that could be added, or is that something where we would want to consider something like Google Analytics, etc.?

I haven't worked with 4.6.3 but I believe MB 8 onwards you can customize the MediaBin RMM client to track the number of times an asset is viewed (I am assuming the viewing you mean you go the asset details page for a particular asset). Having said that, the customization steps are not available in any documentation, and you might have to take help from MediaBin Professional Services.

Another option is a to create a custom experience altogether for your clients by leveraging MediaBin Web Services. In a custom experiece you can choose the mechanism of your choice to track the assets (whether you want to use some analytics engine for tracking the asset views or you want to store the information in a custom DB schema and generate the reports).

I know it's not exactly easy and will require lots of design and development effort.

I would file this as an Enhancement Request. It would be good to add that to the reporting views.
