MediaBin 8.1 - Search functionality observations/issues

I've observed few things w.r.t to search/quick search functioanlity in MB 8.1.

Not sure if these are know observations or issues related to our installation/configuration.

Please suggest.

1) While we perfom quick search first time after immediately login," loading assets.." window is not properly aligned and "no results found" message will display. But search results will appear after some time. This issue won't seems to occur from second search onwards

2) In MB 4.6.2 if we give mp3/pdf in search string it will return all the mp3/pdf assets. But it doesn't seems to be happening in 8.1. It is treating as Metadata only not asset type.

3)There is no Logical search option in advance search in 8.1 as we used to have in 4.6.2. For example, if we would like to find an assets naming, A.pdf, B.pdf and C.pdf . i can select thre search conditions in 4.6.2 by chosing OR option in drop down.

4)I was expecting 8.1 MB search would be more faster than 4x, since its powered with IDOL. for * search the speed is quite better as compared to 4x. But its taking time for smaller result sets. for examplet if i search for any asset by entering metadata in quick search the response time seems to be more as compare to 4x. Since its a new installation do we need to run any House keeping Index tasks to speed up perfomance?

1. I have noticed the first search has the loading message misaligned, but I have not noticed it staying that way for any length of time. It may be related to the speed of search issue (item 4). Do you notice if the timing is the same on the first search and a second search for the same term?

2. The Quick Search box at the top of the UI is not configured by default to include file extensions in the search. So searching "pdf" or "mp3" would not return files with those extensions unless that value is part of the metadata indexed in IDOL. That data *does* include the filename minus extension (e.g. - searching "Todd" would return Todd.pdf and Todd.mp3 if those were in the repository). The IDOL configuration can be modified to include additional metadata fields to be included for quick searching. Otherwise you can use the Advanced Search to search for exact or partial filenames.

3. See attached image - you can create an Or group in Advanced Search. In the Add Criteria dropdown, choose Begin Group. Then choose "Any of the following conditions."

4. The search is generally fast but there are certain factors that can affect the speed. It may be simply the hardware and/or network configuration. It can also be the MediaBin configuration and what and how much metadata is being returned from IDOL for search results. How many assets are in your repository?

If you continue to see slow search results, you should open a support ticket to address it.

Each connection to the MB server manages it's own cache. New client connections have no cached data and therefore you will see improved performance when executing the same search done during the client session.

Are you referring to the Asset Type search field? What don't you see?

Yes. I cant see mp3 etc

The Asset Type field is not a list of extensions. Use Multimedia to find MP3 files.
