Hi, does anyone know of an existing call out or other program that given a link to a tweet, facebook post, youtube video etc can go and grab particular details from it and populate a dcr, or be used by the tpl to populate the resulting page?  I don't want to use their actual embed code, but just publish certain details. 

Before we create one ourselves I thought I would check to see if there is an existing one. Note we don't use livesite or sitepublisher.

While it is possible that something like this might exist, and I doubt it - at least "on the open market" (you could try Google) - I would imagine that, because your needs are specific to your particular use-case that you would be better off writing it yourself.

 

Essentially use the programmatic equivalent of cURL (in Perl or Java) and then parse the output to fit your DCT specifications to create the DCRs - don't forget to set the EAs on the resultant file so that it can be treated as a DCR (in case you want to modify / tweak the content)

 

Sounds like an interesting project (I'm spending most of my time lately doing installations, don't get to have fun programming too much these days) - I would imagine that the most difficult part will be the parsing of the information to extract the information you desire (especially with regard to the videos), but then I haven't looked at the raw data returned from any of these sites.
