Need help with URL external task

Hi,

Where can I get documentation on the OOTB urlexternaltask capabilities, usage instructions and information on how to create custom URL tasks using Java.

We are using TeamSite 7.4.1 we need to create custom Java programs that will be executed as external tasks. From the available docuemnation, I understand that URLtask is the preferred way of incorporating Java programs into workflow rather than standalone Java programs. But I am not able to figure out how to go about creating a custom URL task.

Any guidance is appreciated.

Probably the best place to look is in the CSSDK Java Docs - copy / expand IWHOME/cssdk/docs/cssdk_doc.jar and then click on one of the index HTML pages to open it in your browser)

And since the PDF doesn't explain the process very well....

1. The idea is that you'd create a Java class that implements URLExternalTask.

2. Then you either put this .java file in the TeamSite/local/config/lib/content_center/customer_src/src/ folder structure, or you pre-compile it into a jar and put it in customer_src/lib.

3. Then you run make_toolkit.ipl to have your custom code get merged with TeamSite.

4. Then you can hook it up in a workflow model by using the URLTask and specifying your implementation as a task variable called ClassName.

5. Tip: use commons-logging and save yourself many headaches.

Thanks Ghoti for the response. I have seen the cssdk docs and the API reference. I was looking for the process to get a custom URL task working.
