DNR not working

Teamsite: 5.01

Basically would like to call a script to change some files' permission in a Teamsite workarea and staging, before the deployment start.

When I tried to run the deployement script, the deployment is successful. However, the files permission not changed.

Error Message I found in od.log:

My OD is not runningg by root, but tsadmin. I also tried to run the deployment as "tsadmin", "root", "tan_sy", or "". It didn't work.

(1) Consider upgrading TeamSite - 5.0.1 is, at this point, rather old and probably soon to not be supported.
(2) Read the OD manual regarding limitations of running OD as non-root (i.e. the server process is nonroot - not that someone other than root kicked off the deployment - those are two different things)
(3) it would help to see both the DNR script, the deployment configuration file, and the server configuration file (odbase.xml) - I suggest tar'ing them up and posting them as an attachment

Thanks for your advise. We will definitely upgrade Teamsite, however not at the moment. I have attached my DNR script and deployment script for your info.

BTW, if I wish to run my OD as root, how can I do so? Do I need to reinstall OD again??

I see several issues here:

Your deployment configuration file has a bunch of ^M's in it - if the deployment runs, this is probably not the source of your problem, but ...
Your script is running a chmod in the WORKAREA, but your deployment is running from STAGING - so the only place where you would see the results is in your workarea, not in /tmp/od/export/home/uts
Have you verified that the script itself is executable? If not, you'd have to run it with cmd="/usr/bin/ksh /default/.../dnr_script"
It might be better to have a submit.cfg set the appropriate mode bits on the files when they get submitted to STAGING so that you don't have to run the DNR script at all
Is there some reason you're making text files executable?

That's what I see at this point - hopefully one or more of the above will help you resolve your problem.

Thanks for your advise. your suggestion to change the file permission by using submit.cfg sounds good. May I know if this method can change the permission up to individual file level? or only up to directory level?

As I'm new to OD, may I know where can I get this subbmit.cfg file? Or, can you provide me a sample file?

btw, i'm only do the testing by using text files. please ignore.

The submit.cfg file is part of TeamSite not OpenDeploy - look in the TeamSite Administrator's Guide for more details on it - but yes, it allows you to set permissions all the way down to the individual file level.

The file permission in workarea has been change successfully upon submission. However, it doesn't reflected in staging.

The Interwoven virtual file system (IFS) explicitly hides the 'write' bits when you are looking at files in STAGING and EDITIONS.

I recall recently seeing something about this either being changed in TS6 or open as an enhancement request for TS6 (can't remember which) - because the IFS will prevent you from modifying those files even if it does display the 'write' bits as being there.

To verify that this is so - create a new workarea on the branch, do a Get Latest, and then look at the bits on the files - they should appear the way you set them.

Hmm - interesting question. I'm not sure - of course you could always specify explicit file/directory modes to set within the deployment configuration file - but I think questions like this are most easily answered empirically: Try it / check it. (and post what you find out)

Yes. You can deploy files from anywhere to anywhere, as long as the path is "allowed" in the odbase.xml and odrecvr.xml (I think that's it... something like that, can't recall the name on the receiver end off the top of my head) files.

In fact, you don't even need TeamSite installed for OD to function...

To deploy from a workarea, just put it's path in the deployment config instead of the STAGING path. Be careful though, since deploying from a workarea has other ramifications, like version control... Be careful you don't give up too many TeamSite features to do whatever your trying to do... Sometimes the tradeoff isn't worth it.
