Creating customized page layout

Hi friends,

Can any one tell me how to create a customized page layout.

-Depending on the appearance properties of the component (ex. if we set the components bg color as FFFFFF then it should be visible on page) , the component should be displayed on the page at particular position.

-Can we write the xslt for the page layout which will test the condition and decide the visibility and position of component ?

Yes, but you shouldn't do this with XSL. Instead, use your appearance tab to set a CSS class on the top <div> produced by your component, to which you can assign visibility/display and absolute positioning attributes.

Note that this will likely mess up SitePub though, especially if you're using fixed layout, so be prepared for strange behaviour in Edit mode as a result of this. Perhaps if you state your use case, there might be a better approach.
