open deploy 7.4.1 license issue

Hi All,

I just installed a fresh OD base 7.4.1 on a linux box.

I copied the lic file OD.lic to <od-home>OpendeployNG/etc dir . and restarted the od server.

it shows below error in od.log

SVR: ERROR: LicenseException: Bad domain name. The domain in the license key cisco.com does not match the machine domain NoDomain

Can anyone tell how is it determining machine hostname ?

here is my hostname info: vi /etc/hosts output

127.0.0.1 localhost localhost.localdomain localhost4 localhost4.localdomain4
::1 localhost localhost.localdomain localhost6 localhost6.localdomain6
x.x.x.x hostname hostname.domainname

It's not complaining about the hostname it's complaining about the domain name -

I believe there might be something like /etc/domain on the server - but I don't have a linux machine to check on.

Did you run the tool to ge the license information ?

From the OD Installation manual:

java -cp od-home/lib/odng.jar com.interwoven.license.LicInfo -f output-file -p OD

Running nipper's cmd, it'll probably come back with "NoDomain", because your hosts file has that listed for the first match (assuming the IP is correct). That's generally bad practice -- you shouldn't have an entry for the assigned IP in your hosts file if you can avoid it, and instead let your network config figure it out.

Also, you might want to remove client-specific information from your post, especially if you're a contractor.

yes Andy, you are correct it shows domain name as NoDomain

but when i issue domainname cmd , it displays below output

ca.cisco.com

Can you please share how to set domain name to fix it?

We posted at nearly the same time.. the fix implied by my post is either remove the entry from your hosts file (ideal) or switch the names so that the one with the correct domain appears first in the list.

For more information, look up how java.net.InetAddress resolves localhost.

Change /etc/hosts to remove the line that says

x.x.x.x hostname hostname.domainname

If that breaks things horribly on non-teamsite parts of your machine, then put it back in but reversed like this:

x.x.x.x hostname.domainname hostname

I have set the correct domain name in /etc/hosts and /etc/resolv.conf file

and checked the hostname -d / domainname outputs..its comin correct but when i check from java -cp cmd it still shows NoDomain as Domain name Smiley Sad

yea..i fixed it ..in /etc/hosts

<ip address> hostname.domainname hostanme

still java -cp shows NoDomain

No luck..even after restarting the machine..somehow it still taking domain name as NoDomain

You can try restarting the machine, but I do not htink I have ever needed ot do that in this case.

Recheck your hosts file or just regenerate the license

finally it worked for me after restart.. but now it failed again because of some other error Smiley Sad

checked the logs.. it says websevice address already in use..

just commented out these lines in odbase.xml..and restarted od..finally worked..but still curious to know what exactly this configuration do if enabled?

First, note that you can edit your posts instead of creating giant chains of replies to yourself Smiley Wink

Second, if you want to know what this config does, look it up in the manual. This functionality is required if you're using LiveSite in any way. To find what is using port 9173, you can use the netstat command with whatever option suits your particular OS flavour. That said, using port 11111 is more typical here.

Lastly, you don't seem very comfortable with either this WCM platform or unix in general. I'd highly recommend you go on training, or at least have someone familiar with unix help you get through this, because you very likely haven't seen the last of the issues getting this software fully configured.
