The TCP/IP connection to the host has failed

Hello,

We are installing 7.1 Teamsite but installation is failing with below error -

The TCP/IP connection to the host <server>, port 1433 has failed. Error: "null. Verify the connection properties, check that an instance of SQL Server is running on the host and accepting TCP/IP connections at the port, and that no firewall is blocking TCP connections to the port.".

Can you help on this ? I have confirmed the login of database userid and password, they are working fine. We also tied adding database instance with single and double slash but still no luck.

it do not say <server> , it gives actual server name that we are using, i have just removed it from the log.

Then check to see if there is a firewall in between, see if you can run:

telnet DBserver 1433

does it connect ?

Yes we have tried telnet and it worked fine.

Are you trying to use a domain account or a SQL Server account for the DBO / connection properties of the DB?

My guess is that you're trying to use a domain account - which tends not to work very well.

If that's the case, I'd strongly recommend you create and use a SQL Server account to use for the installation purposes.

Thanks for suggestion but we SQL server account only Smiley Sad ... still seeing the issue...

What is the OS (including version info) for the TS server?

What is the version of SQL Server?

SQL - 2005

Hmm - no idea then - have you tried contacting Support?

yes i did rasie a ticket with Autonomy but they closed it as they no longer support 7.1 Teamsite.

TeamSite 7.1 is already end of life. So, why not go for the next stable version, 7.2.1 ?

Yes our development team is working on upgrading Teamsite 7.1 to 7.4.1 version but this is still in starting phase and will take few months to move it to Production box.

Recently we had a PROD server crash where one of the 7.1 Teamsite server stopped working. Currently our authoring team is using our PROD Backup server. We are trying to bring original server back but facing issue installing 7.1 on PROD server.

Hmm true - so perhaps you should think about installing a newer version (e.g.: 7.4.1) - since you'd want to be supported anyway, and if you should happen to have issues with the installation they'll be in a position to assist you..

You said, you are trying to bring the old PROD server, so you are installing TS on the old server with same hostname ? Is the DB also the same ? May be there is still those old database entries in the DB which is blocking the install.

Did you try cleaning up the DB by dropping all the tables ?

Ah - sorry, didn't see this posting prior to my previous response.

I'd second the motion to verify that the two servers are not trying to use the same DB/tables - and to make sure to drop all the tables associated with the original PROD server.

Yes we are installing TS on the same old server with same host name.

Well first time when we got this error we used old database which already had table and records.

Later on we created 2 new Database - CMSTemp and ReportCenterTemp with no tables assuming TS will setup tables. After trying this scenario, we got same error. We did telnet to database server from PROD box and it looks good. Database access front is also looking good.

We also tried "servername\inst1" and "servername\\inst2" still no luck.

Do you have the required MSSQL client and drivers (sqljdbc.jar) installed ?

Read this in the install guide. Tried this too ?

1.Open the my.cnf configuration file.
2.Set the following parameter:
lower_case_table_names = 1
3.Restart the MySQL services

I'm confused - are the above what you are using for the userid for the DB?

If you're using SQL Server accounts it should just be "userid" not "servername\userid" or "servername\\userid" (that's part of the reason that domain accounts don't tend to work - I believe the installer messes things up with the back-slashes)

Guessing he's talking about SQLServer instance names, which the installer doesn't really support but the driver does.

OP, post your whole jdbc connection string. It's possible you have a syntax exception in regards to instance names, because what you put there looks like you wanted the database name instead.
