Set File Comments without submitting the file in the workflow

Hi,

I want to set custom comment on the File as Comment : "Custom text".

The requirement is not to submit file at this stage, I am using WFM and an external scripti (.ipl) is created to achive the same.

I have tried :

1. iwsettaskfilecomment command

2. iwextattr command

3. Have removed and attached the file again in the task with the new comment.

Teamsite Version : 7.4.1

Still no luck.

Is there any way to set Comment without submitting the file to STAGING area ?

No. The file comment is a comment on that version of the file, and the version isn't created outside of a submit event.

You can, however, create custom extended attributes to store your information on the file, but it won't be in the "file comments" box.

Thanks for the reply. I agree, this comment is set with the version.

I was wondering why in copy to operation we see this box updated. I even tried looking at the code for copy to operation under iw-cc war, still no luck.

FYI - I just did a quick test with a modified version of the default_submit.wft, where I added a usertask after the submittask. In the instantiation form, I put "File Comment" in for the individual file comment, I ran the workflow and when it was sitting in the usertask, I tried running the iwsettaskfilecomment command putting in a comment of "Testing"

When I go to look at the file properties for the file I submitted, I see the original "File Comment" comment.

When I go to the Task Details screen and click on File Comments associated with the file, I see three comments listed:

File Comment
Submitted
Testing

This was just to "prove" what's already been stated here - which is that the comment associated with the file when it gets submitted is the comment that shows up in the Properties for that file (note: iwrlog also only shows "File Comment" in its record of the file, so the only place I can see the additional comments is within the Task Details context)

As for CSSDK classes that might be involved:

There is no generic "SetFileComment" class in any of the jar files - the setting of comments is distinctly associated with workflow tasks.

Thanks guys for sparing time to answer my query.

Just for the information, i have found a workaround.

Instead of putting text in the default Comment box, I have created a new EA and placed custom text in it.
