Setting metadata (tags) on content (files, pages, dcrs) when content is created

Hello,

 

We have a requirement to have an Expiry Date set on newly created content that can be used to generate an expirying content report.  I'm using iwat to register a trigger (CreateFSE) with a perl script that sets the metadata on the file/page/dcr, however it also changes the Author_ID to root since its running under the system process in Teamsite.  Is there any way to prevent this from happening and/or another way to set metadata when a file gets uploaded and dcr/page get created?  The user doesnt want to have to specify the expiry data metadata (tag) every time they publish the content, they want it already set.

You could create a custom workflow (or modify an existing one) that contains a task that checks to see if the value is set on all files being processed.  If so - simply skip to the next task.  If not - create a list of the files that need the information added to them and use iwextattr (or CSSDK equivalent) to set the values the same way you were doing with the iwat trigger script - the difference being that you can have the task (either CGI Task if you want it to be interactive, or External or URL External task if you want it automated) can be owned by the user who initiated the job.
