Hi all.
Is it possible to integrate something other than OpenDeploy in support of Teamsite/Livesite's implicit and explicit deploy processes?
Thank You
Susan
Possible? Certainly.
Reasonable? Unclear.
What is it that you don't like about OpenDeploy or particularly like about some other form a file transfer program?
How much effort are you willing to spend to "reinvent the wheel" - specifially when it comes to dealing with LSCS and LSDS deployments?
We love OpenDeploy. Given the choice I'd ditch Teamsite and keep OpenDeploy in a heartbeat. However, due to contract idiocy (both sides) its looking like we can no longer afford to acquire OpenDeploy. We have the right to download/install/License Teamsite 8 but not OpenDeploy 8.
If you've kept your maintenance contract up to date - you should be able to download any software you were licensed for - and OpenDeploy has generally not been anywhere as expensive as TeamSite
Have you checked this out carefully, or are you assuming you cannot download OpenDeploy 8 because you aren't seeing it on the [new] download site? If the latter, I suggest you contact Support to find out why you aren't seeing it there.
People use TeamSite without OD. Not common, but it happens.
If you are using LSDS, then you can likely set up a set of scripts/programs with a tool like rsync to distribute content. Still a lot of development and likely more costly than buying OD, but I assume you know what you are talking about contractually.
LSCS is another matter completely. You probably could figure out a way to ingest content into LSCS, but it will not be easy. Basically LSCS drops the items into an IDOL mountpoint and then invokes LSCS to ingest the content. Few people know these steps well. I consider myself one and I am not certain I would want to try writing this without using OD.
No assumptions. Due to bilateral errors, HP has informed us that we do not have a valid OD contract thus we may not download or license 8. Quotes to put a contract back in place are, to put it mildly, astonishing. So thats what prompted my question. I need to provide management with options. Thank you for your responses. Perhaps we'll just have to cut our losses on having purchased maintenance for Teamsite/Livesite and find a new content management system.
Seriously? That is a big shame. OD was always fairly reasonablly priced (compared to TS, maybe 10% of the total purchase price)
Hopefully someone reads this and figures out a way for everyone to win, rather than sending another of the install base to Adobe or Drupal
Thank you. Lets hope reason returns to the process.
