Java error (blank pop-up) in TeamSite750 due to cookie

Hello,

If I go into newly installed TeamSite 7.5 in IE11 I get a Java error (a blank popup), and I have to exit IE and open it again.

In my case it happens when I try to use "Check Links".

Other users get the same error both in IE & FF using other TS Java apps (at one stage I got it on "Compare Differences").

We found the following diagnostics in content_center.log, which see to indicate a problem setting a cookie with a special character, but we don't know where TeamSite may be setting this.

Not getting much help from HP Support, so any insight here would be appreciated. Anyone else get this?

Which version of Java are you running? You need JRE 1.7 minimum for things to work properly in 7.5.

Yes, I should have stated that. This is happening both for Java 7u72 & 8v43 (I believe I need to get a patch for tha latter, but that's a separate issue).

I'm not sure 7.5 is certified for java 8 but 7 should work. Are you using https for TeamSite by any chance? I didn't have your exact issue when I installed 7.5 but I had something similar when using https only.

Yes, we are using https - we have to. What symtpons and diagnostics did you get, Smitty?

Not sure if this will solve this exact problem, but this is something we have to do when we use https (which is a requirement here so I have this implemented in all environments). This was specifically a solution for FF, not IE, but you never know. The problem this solved for me was when you tried to compare source between two versions of files, it would not display the source properly, but only when we used https.

Edit this file: <tshome/iw-webd/conf/iwwebd.conf.template

Comment out this line:

 Header edit Set-Cookie ^(.*)$ $1;HttpOnly;Secure

So it should look like this:

# Header edit Set-Cookie ^(.*)$ $1;HttpOnly;Secure

Then do a "iwreset -a"

This will modify your iwwebd.conf file upon reset. Then see if any behavior changes. Fingers crossed.

Thanks Smitty. I put it in, and I'll get the users to check tomorrow. Unfortunately I don't think it has worked because I still have an issue on Check Links, but I'll check with those for whom this is a wider issue. Defintely worth a shot though.

Back on this, this error is still occurring but I've isolated when it occurs and probably the sympton - I think the cookie error might be an effect rather than a cause.

It only happens in 1 branch (our largest and most important) and happens when a preview is done.

I see in content_center.log:

After this, hitting anything brings up the blank java error pop-up on screen.

So visual preview is a suspect, and I'm looking at files under ApplicationContainer/standalone/deployments/iw-cc.war/WEB-INF/conf/.

Has anyone encountered this error before?

Update on this, wasn't visual preview (which I turned off for now). It's now very much looking like we have some script or callout running in many of our pages that is toasting the TeamSite UI after we do a Preview. Other more minimalist pages with just simple html do not give a problem. I missed this because most of the pages I was looking at come from the same template and we have not seen this problem in TeamSite versions prior to TS750.

No I just have to figure out which is the offending script and what to do about it...

Found the culprit, it is survey.js which is the "foresee" survey thingie many people may have seen. TeamSite750 doesn't like it, it toasts the UI after preview.

We'll probably have to find a way to suppress it in TeamSite, not sure how yet.

Finishing this off, in case anyone else has this. It was the 'foresee' survey.js which toasts the TeamSite UI in version 7.5.0 (7.3.2 OK). Put the HttpOnly;Secure setting back in iwwebd.conf.

My 'solution' was to simply rename survey.js in TeamSite to break it, and make it a deploy exception. A better solution would have been to make a change in survey.js to detect it is in TeamSite and exit immediately. Maybe could also change apache to stop survey.js. But unless there are any more feasible solutions, renaming survey.js is working for now.
