Display Services application type

I have not worked on IIS. So here is a dumb question.

Can I create a site with "Display Services Application Type" property of the site set to "Java web application" and get it to work on IIS?

In other words, If the runtime is IIS, does the site have to be of type ".Net web application". Please let me know if there are any pointers to more information around significance of "Display Services Application Type".

IIS may have other application types, but Java will not be one of them. In the context of Java webapps, IIS is nothing more than a web server (like Apache) and you have to forward your requests to a Java Application Container (Tomcat, Jetty, GlassFish, JBoss, WebLogic, WebSphere, WildFly, etc etc).

You have to have an application server, IIS won't do that.

You likley will also have a webserver, IIS can do that.

I still prefer using Apache/Tomcat to IIS/Tomcat.

Or you can go full bore into IIS/DotNet
