Teamsite / Java Compatibility matrix

Hi,

I'm after a Teamsite / Java Compatability matrix.

We are currently running TeamSite 7.1

IT want to upgrade to JAVA 8.

I'm not sure that our current version of TeamSite is compatible with the latest version of JAVA.

I hope someone can advise me on this.

Supported no chance at all. 7.1 came out in 2010 or so.

Will it work ? Possibly. I also think that your browsers will have trouble. Not certain what was supported with that rev but something on th eorfer of IE8/IE9 and very old FF

You reallyneed to upgrade TS. It is amazing how many companies wonder why HP doesn't support the latest browser/OS/Java with software released 5-10 years ago.

TeamSite 8.0 is the first version to officially support Java 8.

Another consideration unfortunately is browser support for the JAVA pluggin in general. Chrome has dropped support as of Sept 2015 (v45), Firefox by the end of 2016, and IE drops Active X after v11. All of the above has something to do with NPAPI support (which I do not profess to by any expect on).

I'm actually on the DEVNet trying to dig further into this, and possibly find an HP roadmap to JAVA-Less suppport. We're on TS 8.1 which I believe is the first to officially support Chrome, but we have run into this issue now.

You (or an administrator) can manually enable NPAPI again in Chrome, but it's only extends the inevitable.

Oracle has announced that they will stop developing the Java browser plugin (https://blogs.oracle.com/java-platform-group/entry/moving_to_a_plugin_free) so the whole thing will soon be dead anyway.

Funny, I have heard the same thing about flash and yet it is still in use way too much.....

True, but I think this is a little different. Niether Chrome (taking note of the previous point about enabling support again) or Edge support it currently and Firefox will stop at the end of the year. Not to mention all the phone/tablet type devices.

I'm sure Java plugin use will die very rapidly in the next 12 months.
