Teamsite 7.4.0 Plugin-Free coming

We are running Teamsite 7.4.0.0.0 and I understand that many browsers are removing the plugin support

We use a number of the features in Teamsite such as comparing versions of a file that use the java plugin. Is there a way to reconfigure Teamsite 7.4.0.0.0 to not use the plugin or do we need to upgrade our Teamsite? And if we do upgrade our Teamsite, does the new version not use the java plugins so we won't run into this problem in the immediate future?

This has been a problem with TeamSite for a while - our organisation doesn't even allow Java installed on the desktops. I've had to write an alternative file import and file comparison that doesn't use a Java applet.

Unfortunately I don't know when TeamSite will drop the need for the Java applets. I'm pretty sure TeamSite 8.1 still uses them.

I just double checked and 8.1 still needs Java.

I highly doubt that when HP can move away from Java plugin, that they retroactively patch 7.4.1 (which I think was the original question)

To add insult to injury, I believe TS 8.1 officially came with support for Chrome, yet Chrome has deprecated support for NPAPI as of September 2015 (which oracle uses). So I assume the JAVA pluggin won't work as expected, thus basically losing support for Chrome as soon as they certified it.

TeamSite 8.1 only supports Chrome with their new "Experience Studio" interface - which seems to be their latest iteration of the "Standard", then "TeamSite" interfaces that never seemed to take off.

I'm not sure if Experience Studio requires the java plugins or not - I've not really used it.

Having seen some demos of the Experience Studio (at the HP Extreme conference last year), I would not lump it together with CCStd & "TeamSite UI" - I haven't had a chance to use it myself, it would seem to be most useful if you have LiveSite and MediaBin (at least that's where I think the biggest "bang-for-the-buck" shows up).

I have no comments regarding the java plugin's and Chrome though - so "we now return you to your regulary scheduled program"

The new UI doesn't use Launchpad, so Chrome would be fine (it doesn't need Java when importing/downloading files from TeamSite).

Also, product management is already looking into a way for future versions to be independent of Java, knowing they are ending support soon.

Heather, can you clarify, is it only Experience Studio that does not use Java ?

From my testing CC Pro still needs it.

Only Experience Studio (hence "new UI"). Sorry for not being more clear last time! CCPro and TeamSite UI haven't been changed as far as importing or exporting(editing) files and using Java.

Any update on Java-free TeamSite patches or versions? Where in HP can we keep an eye on regarding this, other than here in DevNet?
