Reduce active versions in TS

Hi,

I want to reduce number of versions for a file. For example, if we have 100 versions for a file, then I want to keep only last 50 versions and get rid of remaining. Is there any custom/product solution for that?

We are in TS 7.x Any help appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Do you need to recover disk space or is there another reason ?

You can reduce disk space with iwfsshrink

To remove versions, you need to remove the editions that refer to the versions you want.

Do a search for remove versions, there are a number of threads that talk about it

We can't remove old editions also due to company compliance. Because of this versions are piling up in the system and it is hitting performance. I will search for that threads. Please let me know If you have any custom solution to remove versions. Please share the right thread url if you have it in handy.

If you cannot remove editions - you cannot remove versions; the ONLY way to remove specific versions of a file is to remove EVERY edition (and workarea and staging area if relevant) that references a particular version of a file

I seriously doubt that "versions are piling up" is what's hurting your performance, the versions by themselves are not the issue. .

Not providing sufficient disk space to store all the versions would hurt your performance
- How much space did you provide?
- How big is your backing store?
- How did you measure the size of your backing store?
Running other application [servers] on your TeamSite server, such that it is sharing the CPU and RAM resources would also hurt your performance.
- How much CPU do you have on your server?
- How much RAM do you have on your server?
- Are you running any other applications on your server?
- Are you running un-restrained anti-virus checking software (i.e.: traversing through the Y:\ drive / iw-mount directory) on your server?
Having poorly written code used within TeamSite can also hurt your performance.

How much diagnostic investigations have you performed to arrive at the conclusion that your problems are due to the number of versions of files?

Thank you for asking questions and made me to look the system into different ways.

We have sufficient memory and RAM. When I say performance, may be it is a wrong word I used. Actual issue is , when business clicks on versions link, where that file has many versions, UI is getting hang. Could see CPU usage is high. Contacted HP and they also suggested to remove editions. I am checking in forum, if someone implemented some custom solution which helps to remove versions without editions.

Well you may be able to write something to clean it up, but I am skeptical that it will help.

You can also take some of the editions off line. Either by (purchasing and) installing a second content store and running iwmigrate, or myjust running iwmigrate on to a local disk that you can offload. In either case you can then delete many old editions.

By having a second store mounted you have instance access.

You should also run iwfsshrink and see if that frees up some disk (may not help your prooblem but is a best practice).
