Currently one of my client is running Teamsite 7.x on the server, is it possible that they can install the teamsite 8.2 on the same server so that the server will have both 7.x and 8.2 at the same time?

No, you can install a tool like VMWare or something that allows you to have mulitple separate computers in the same box and install different instances of TS there. That is the closest you will get.
Why do they need both versions on the same server? What is the requirement here?
Anyways, I think you can install 7.x and 8.2 on different machines. Then maybe use 7.x store with 8.2 (if that's the requirement) but not the other way.
