doc to html

mksiw

Did any of you tested the conversion from doc to html as mentioned in the below tech note:

TechNote 049161
Title: Converting .doc to .html using VBScript

I did the configuration as mentioned in the document but I cant achieve the conversion. There was no any error thrown.

If any of you have an idea to convert word doc to html please throw some light...

thx

1. I created an application to convert the word document in to html and DCR
2. The DCR holds the body portion of the html ( converted from word doc) in one of the item's value. Which is going to be the body content of the HTML which is supposed to be generated using presentation template
2. I ported the dcr in to the teamsite and set the extended attributes.
3. Now when I tried to open the dcr in teamsite I was not able to open in DCT UI.
5. But when I put the html body content (converted word doc) in to text area of a new DCR, It does lot of cleaning and I can able to generate the HTML using my presentation template

My question is how do I clean up the HTML which I created from word doc and make it pulled in to the Visual format editor of the DCT. I know the creatd HTML have lot of style sheet script,
tags with lot of attributes and other tags... I cant clean them unless I put them in a visualformate editor text area and clean it.

Any ideas or help will be really appreciated...

thx

Take a look at the difference in the DCR (looking at the raw file) as a result of the way you tried to do it and the result of the way it worked when pasting it into the VFE.

My guess is that you have to make sure all the '<'s are changed into '<'s (in case that gets interpreted - into 'ampersand-lt;') and possibly some other conversions too - before inserting the code directly into the DCR.

Another possibility is to wrap the entire content string in something like ' ... '.

The above are just guesses - as I have not tried to do this myself

Thanks for your reply.

I tried changing the < to :lt; and > to > also all attributes of the tags in the converted HTML were not having values in double quotes. Once I did this changes in the HTML content in the DCR for a single file. It started accepting and I can able to pull that in to the visual format editor.

Now Iam trying to work out a conversion process to do that manual process for all the converted HTML file which I did. It is kinda pain...

Perl regex's are your friend ;-)

Off the top-o-my-head / untested:

my $html;
if (open(IN, "<$html_source_file")){
    local $/;
    $html = ;
    close(IN);
}
else {
    # error
}
$html =~ s|<|\<|gs;
$html =~ s|=([^"']\w*)|="$1"|gs;

Hope that helps.

I'd use HTML::entities::encode

for that kind of stuff.

thanks for your replies.

I found one interesting thing, there is a special character found in the HTML content ( which I got after conversion of word doc to HTML). This special character looks like empty space in between the tags and it is found to be . Once I replace this special characters between tag with the DCT started to show the HTML content in the VisualFormat.
