Hi AmitKumar,
Adhoc and Interactive Reporting is just an area on the site where examples, forums, etc are located that deal with Ad Hoc reporting and interactive reporting. These "areas" were put together like this so that people asking questions would be in similar development cycles within their reporting project... so we have "Designing..." section that deals with BIRT designer questions, a "Deploying..." section that deals with API integration as well as open source and commercial viewer integration and deployment... and this section that can deal with Interactivity for the end user whether that is handled with the BIRT Designer, with the commercial BIRT Interactive Viewer (part of the Actuate iPortal), or using the BusinessReport Studio for ad-hoc BIRT reports.
The iPortal (which gets you the BIRT Interactive Viewer) and the BusinessReport Studio (for Ad-hoc BIRT reports) are both commercial products that require a license. Trial downloads are available and last for 90 days before timing out.
For your Tomcat question, yes, the BIRT ad-hoc reporting module (called BusinessReport Studio) is available as a war file so you can integrate that with your own application server.

By the way, the WAR file download of iPortal/BusinessReport Studio is hidden under a few links so a direct link is <a class='bbc_url' href='

Hello,
I have downloaded the evaluation copy of Actuate iPortal.
But I am not able to move on defining the data sources in Business Report studio screens. Always it shows only the default datasource (ClassicModel). How can I make connection to the database and create a datasource so that i can test how it works on editing the report. I tried both in workgroup mode and enterprise mode.
In simple what i am looking for is
1) How to create a new report thru iportal, connecting to my database
2) how to make that report editable like creating new calculations, filters...etc
3) How to use BIRT report design (.rptdesign) files and open them in iportal and make them editable.
Please suggest something for this as soon as possible as we are in very urgent need for such kind of software.

Hi KP:
The first task you must do when creating a new report is to choose a template. Templates are created with a BIRT report designer (Actuate or Eclipse). They typically include datasource/dataset and general layout to give the user a starting point to speed up their report design.
To open an existing BIRT design in BusinessReport Studio you can try renaming the extension from rptdesign to bizdesign.
