Spcial font conversion

HI,
I am using birt to generate reports on a spring mvc application running on tomcat.
The backend is oracle. In my application I use a special font which is rendered correctly in the browser, but in birt reports the font is getting replace by the actual code. &#58208. What is happening is instead of rendering html &# the result is &#58209 escaps the &.

The font is installed on the system and birt has it listed in the available fonts list.
Wondering if anyone has seen this before or know a solution on how to render the symbol.
