Advance Substring

Hi everybody

Got stuck again..Please help

I have a string I202 SOGRFRPP X **** N and I want to substring it so that it will show 'SOGRFRPP ****', which is the 4th character to the 11th and skip the 12th and from 13th to 15th, skipping the last one.

Try something like:

mystr = "I202 SOGRFRPP X **** N";
newstr = mystr.substring(4,11) + mystr.substring(13,15);

Hi Crystalllll,

Another thing you can do is in your dataset, you can create a computed column with the expression like:

row["Value"].substring(5,13) + " " + row["Value"].substring(16,19)

That should pull out the values that you want as well.

My doubt is also with taking substring , but with certain condition.

Let us take the below example

mystr = "I202/SOGRFRPP/X/XXXN";

I want to seperate the above string into 4 different strings .

Result should be:

mystr1=I202
mystr2=SOGRFRPP
mystr3=X
mystr4=XXXN

First string should be taken upto last but one character of the '/'(First occurrence)
Second string should be taken upto last but one character of the '/'(between first occurance and Second
occurrence)
.......

Note: Please note in my report i will get different set of values for mystr. So we would not take substring by giving like substring(0,3) since we may not know the lenght of the strings to be seperated.

Wat i guess is that , the string should check the first occurance of '/' and have to take substring excluding the '/'.

Similarly for the second and other strings.......

Please advice me in this regard.......

You can run a split on your variable: 
 
mystr = mystr.split("/",4); 
 
Then, you can recall them where you need them with: 
 
mystr, where i is 0,1,2, etc...
