[2.2.2] DataBinding on a Report Item : Sorting, grouping are impossible ?

Hello,

I have some problems with BIRT and how the data sets are managed. I use some data sets many times in a report, I don't want to load a data set again and again to show only one or two datas each time. It's long and memory increased...

To avoid that, I used that :
1. I create my data set (for exemple People with a data Name).
2. I create a table binding on my DataSet People.
3. Then I hide this table Tab1. (This creation is to load one time the DataSet)
4. I create an other table binding on Tab1.

It work perfectly.

Then I would like to filter the data on my second table. But I can't ! Buttons to add a filter are disabled (same things for Sorting and Grouping).

Have you a solution ?

Hi BiM,

I'm using BIRT 2.2.2 as well and set up a report just like you described. It looks to me like you'll have to do all of the grouping, sorting, and filtering on Tab1 to get it to show up that way in Table 2.

But I use and reuse my table Tab1 and I do multiple filters and group. Then this solution is not a good way for my problem

I didn't think you'd like my answer...:) It looks to me like upgrading to 2.3, like you've already said you don't want to do, is the only way to get the results you want.

Hi Michael,

I received number of man-days to backport this to 2.2.2 and it's not that impressive.

If you're still at IBM , you might want to support this initiative ? A customer commitment request form should be enough.
