BIRT and Maven

indie

just like seamus, i'm building my project with maven2 and want to deploy it on tomcat ...
but i can't find any BIRT dependencies in the central repo:
<a class='bbc_url' href='http://repo1.maven.org/maven2/'>http://repo1.maven.org/maven2/</a>

only in
<a class='bbc_url' href='http://repo1.maven.org/eclipse/org/eclipse/birt/'>http://repo1.maven.org/eclipse/org/eclipse/birt/</a>
there are dependencies from the 2.1 release

I have seen other threads (from 2006) that say that BIRT has not been
'mavenized'.
Is this still true?
If so, are there plans to mavenize this project?
Or is there any support for the 2.2.2 version?

I've got the exact same problem. There's nothing on this in the FAQ, can't find anything out via Google. So which is it: either 1) no one out there uses Maven 2 to resolve dependencies w/ the BIRT runtime; 2) nobody using BIRT actually do repeatable build practices; or 3) this stuff is so blatantly obvious that indie an I are literally the only two folks in the known universe that aren't in on the secret.

Thanks!

Anything? Jesus, this is sad...

It's as if Maven doesn't even exist to the BIRT community...

Hi indie & ian,

You may have already seen this, but this is a posting from the devShare that describes integrating BIRT with Maven.

<a class='bbc_url' href='http://www.birt-exchange.com/devshare/deploying-birt-reports/51-installing-birt-in-jboss-rs/#'>http://www.birt-exchange.com/devshare/deploying-birt-reports/51-installing-birt-in-jboss-rs/#</a>

Hope this helps.

Would it be possible to update the Maven repository with the latest version of Birt (2.5.1)?

Maven is becoming extremely popular in the Java developers community. It is really a pity that Birt is not published in the Maven central repositories.

It would make it possible to integrate Birt in my application with only a few mouseclicks....

JasonW

I assume you want to use maven to include the BIRT jars for the Report Engine API/Design Engine API/Chart Engine API, not to build the plugins themselves?

Yes, there is actually this link which explains how to get artefacts in the Maven Central Repository:
<a class='bbc_url' href='http://maven.apache.org/guides/mini/guide-central-repository-upload.html'>Maven - Guide to uploading artifacts to the Central Repository</a>

Birt can also decide to set up their own repository but that will give Birt less visibility in the Maven community.

As a Brit user I would like to add only something like this in my pom.xml file:
<dependency>
<groupId>org.eclipse.birt</groupId>
<artifactId>chart.engine</artifactId>
<version>2.5.1</version>
</dependency>

JasonW

I think it would be good to have one for

Report/Design Engine
and
Chart Engine

+1 for Report/Design Engine and Chart Engine availability in Maven Repo.

I am sure those of us in the community can help if needed...

Same here. Presently looking for a way to package my application with maven2 including all necessary BIRT jars, without much fuss. Seems there isn't a simple & easy way after all... Let's hope this gets looked into soon!

Indy

BIRT platform can be packaged as a zip file and can be uploaded into a local maven repository. I used this approach and its all working fine for me. The required folders can be extracted by the maven plugins. For compilation purposes, only the required jars like the engine-api.jar, etc can be uploaded separately into to the local repo.

Hi Indy,

If you wouldn't mind putting together a quick step by step of what you did to integrate BIRT and Maven and putting it in the devShare, that'd be great.

ssabrewolf

This script could be helpful
<a class='bbc_url' href='http://community.jboss.org/wiki/BIRTIntegration'>BIRTIntegration - JBoss Community</a>
with the brit runtime or with the main birt framework zip at eclipse home.

Edd

Any more progress with this?? I am also looking to use BIRT in my Maven managed project...

Cheers.

Hello All, Hi Jason W. How you doin long time no hear from.

OK on his issue. Yes it would be nice to have Birt available in a Maven Repo other than our own local one. For instance JBoss maintains a repo and has Maven jars up to 2.2.2 here.

http://repository.jboss.org/maven2/org/eclipse/birt/

It would be nice to have 2.5.1, 2.5.2, 3.x etc Also it is not hard to use Maven to build your plugins as well. If the plugin jars could also be in a central Maven repo it would make this easier too.

Regards,

Todd
