Disable 'Import Files' option for some directories
System
Hi,
Is there a way in Teamsite to block the option "Import files..." for some of the folders in a workarea? Is there any config file where i can specify to enable/disable this option based on the folder selected?
Please let me know if you have any way of achieving this.
Thanks in advance.

Hi,
Well you can disable the option for certain roles, but it will not solve the problem if you want that certain users from that specific role be able to import...
Have you tried to change the read permissions from the folders you want to prevent the users from import? Well assuming they don't need to use those folders for other purposes...
What OS are you using anyway?
Cheers,
Jorge

Thanks Jorge!
But making the folders readonly would not help me, as the users would be uploading HTMLS files which requires the write permission.
The OS is windows - where the Teamsite is installed.
Precisely, my requirement is, I have a few folders in a workarea and the users should not be able to import files into these folders. But they should be able to save HTML files generated from templates.
Is there a way to acheive this thru any teamsite config file or by customizing teamsite program files?
Thanks again.

Hi,
You could go to other solutions like developing a custom interface for the purpose however I would go for training the users and explaining how and why they should not import files into those folders anyway.

In addition to trining the users, you could use submit workflows to enforce the policy. Basically, the idea is that you allow the user to import to those directories (because its a lot of work / impossible to prevent that) but then you don't allow non-templating files to be submitted from those directories. Your submit workflow can check to see what files are being submitted, and if they are in one of these restricted directories, it could do a check to make sure that they are templating-generated (or any other criteria you choose, it just sounds like that's the criteria you want in this situation). If they don't meet your criteria, you can prevent the submit, and give the user a way to deal with the situation (at a minimum an email to let them know that the submit didn't happen).

Thanks a lot Jonathan!!
That worked! Now, though the user can upload his file to any folder, he cannot submit it to specific folders.
Thanks again for a great suggestion.

CAREFUL -
If I generate a file using a template, then upload a file on top of it, will it keep the extended attributes of the originally generated file. So if it's a security issue that user must not under any circumstances be allowed to import a file into those folders, then the workflow should regenerate the .html document from the template before submission and deployment.
Good Luck
